Windy Wonders at Gearings Point
It was a blustery day in Hermanus, but that didn't deter whale enthusiasts from gathering at the famous Gearings Point. The choppy, deep blue bay, was alive with activity as Southern Right whales braved the waves.
From the vantage point overlooking the cliffs and the colorful sculpture, spectators watched in awe. Despite the wind whipping around them, they had a fantastic view of the gentle giants.
We spotted one magnificent whale performing a head breach, its barnacle-covered rostrum breaking the surface amidst the white spray. Shortly after, another whale delighted the crowd by slapping its massive tail fluke against the water, sending up a plume of foam near the rocky shore where cormorants rested.
The day offered a spectacular display of nature's power and grace, a true highlight of the whale-watching season.
