Hermanus - 2025-08-01

Winter in Hermanus, cold and wet, started the morning with rough ocean and huge waves 

Difficult to spot whales in these conditions

During the day the weather calmed down and I spotted mom and calf at Sievers Point

They did not like the big waves and quickly moved out to deeper calmer sea

Still, the Southern right whales of the cliffs do not disappoint

Proper winter, cold, raining and rough seas

Mother and calf and the calf flapped its tail nonstop, exercising for sure

And a whale breaching in the rain, difficult to spot

A few whales in the bay, a warm berg wind over Hermanus today and a hot day

Mothers and calves were all over and showed themselves

Followed them from Sievers Point to Roman Rock
